Checks, Panels and New Silhouettes Reinventing Functionality at Acne Studios in Paris

We bring you a closer look at the Acne Studios runway show for autumn/winter 2015 from Paris Fashion week. Check out backstage where the MAC cosmetics team apply the finishing touches and bright red lipstick to the models then watch the gorgeous celebs and VIPs arriving at the Pompidou Centre. Enjoy highlights from the show and listen to our exclusive interview with designer Jonny Johansson.

Talking about Swedish style Johansson says they are known for their functionality, volume and oversized silhouettes. He wanted to challenge this framework and role-played with new shapes and ideas. He was also inspired by the photography of Dutch artist Viviane Sassen and took inspiration from her use of color and random elements which he translated into the collection as well as using some of her images on printed garments.

The designer developed his own fabrics and created clothes that represented some of the subject matter of Sassen’s photographs like brick walls or plastic bags, experimenting with patterns and texture. The collection features shearling biker jackets, shirt dresses and belted coats mixing amongst paneled dresses and patchwork trousers with details including oversized stitch work and beaded fringing. Many garments had large contrasting pockets and fastenings, playing with the idea of functionality and chic, sophisticated decoration.
